A homecoming to self-love emerged from my first taste of Yoga. I was sold! And so, the Yogic journey began. Thanks to Yoga my body feels free, strong, easy and healthy. Thanks to Yoga my mind feels focused, calm and present. Thanks to Yoga my emotions feel peaceful, balanced, expressed. Thanks to Yoga my spirit feels whole, aware, soulful.
It is when practicing Yoga that I am oneness, I am enough, I am consciousness. While Yoga is ancient, its teachings are pertinent in our modern era of busyness, consumerism, and disconnect. Yoga acts as a soothing balm on these trappings of modern life. We come home to what’s important – our health and wellbeing, our relationships, our purpose, our connection to nature, self, others, and the universe. We are no longer separate; we are in union.
Consider what it is about Yoga you are thankful for. Is it gratitude for a physical benefit you can feel in your body? Is it gratitude for an emotional reason; where you feel calmer as a result of Yoga? Is it for mental reasons; your mind slows its monkey maze for a while? Do you feel gratitude for the spiritual aspect of Yoga? Maybe you feel that Yoga benefits you in all these areas. If so, awesome! Yoga, after all, is a holistic practice designed to create a union of all aspects of ourselves.
We did an exercise in class where I asked people to divide a piece of paper into the four areas mentioned – physical, mental, emotional, & spiritual and to write down the benefits they feel through Yoga in each of these areas. What became apparent is that while many people may have initially come to Yoga for physical health, what has kept them practicing and where they really feel the benefits is in how it enhances them mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
My Yoga brings me home to Living with Heart & Soul.
Soul Reflection – Through the practice of Yoga, what do you come home to?
